This 1920s art deco, sterling silver, dance compact is just beautiful. The compact has a chased flower basket on the front side crowned with swags of garlands, and there is a border of chased leaves as a decorative border on the outer front edge. The basket, garlands and leaves are chased onto a black niello ground. The rich and thick sterling tassel is secured to the bottom of the compact with a niello-patterned, cone shaped cap. The sterling silver chain is in place and is original to the piece. The back of the compact shows three stylized initials all intertwined. I think they read: “BJR”. The compact is a solid, heavy weight for it’s size. This compact is double sided for rouge and powder. There is a clean mirror within each lid on each side. The compact is stamped “sterling” along with the company logo and other hallmarks and numbers on the inside rim. The condition of the compact is very nice vintage with no dings or dents, and there are no scratches on the silver. The chain is original with no damage. The tassel is thick and complete with all strands present. There is one missing disc. The back side opens and shows the back side of the rouge disc. The powder disc originally snapped onto the back of the rouge disc but it is no longer in the compact. The mirrors are very clean with no fogging and no black marks or streaks. The sterling patina throughout is beautiful, and there are no gauges or scratches in the niello surfaces. The measurements can be found in my pictures above. The compact weighs 71.5 grams all inclusive.
