ORIGINAL – Vintage Russian. Silver Niello Box Case. N amazing Antique Fine Russian Silver Niello Box Case, Moscow, 1878. GK, Gustav Gustavovich Klingert. Cover with troika scene, base with profuse scrolling foliage on stippled ground centred by monogrammed disc cartouche dated 1878; the case is marked on the inside edge with 84 for 875 purity silver, a city mark for Moscow, and a maker’s mark of GK for Gustav Klingert. The inside of the lid is also stamped with the city mark and the 84. Lovely addition to a box/case collector or as a gift. The factory produced table silver and also received special commissions, such as commemorative coronation dishes. Klingert’s works were awarded medals at various international exhibitions in London and Edinburgh (1886), Paris (1889, 1890), Chicago (1893), and Antwerp (1894). FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE.. Found in an estate liquidation on Madeira Island Portugal, that of a family with ties to Russia. Antique Russian Silver teaspoon with Niello decoration. The handle has a floral motif while the back 0f the bowl features a Moscow Landmark. The hallmarks are not very legible. Russian silver purity is noted as 84. The spoon measures 5 3/4 inches in length and has a weight of approximately 24 grams. It is monogrammed with the letter “A”. Previously owned, the spoon has survived with no loss to the bowl rim. I noticed a slight dent in the monogram on the handle, close to the end, as well as a ding in the silver, also on the handle. Additionally, expect to find the kinds of abrasions one would always find on any estate silver.

Art Nouveau White Lotus design. Niello is a black mixture, usually of sulphur, copper, silver, and lead, used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal, especially silver. It is added as a powder or paste, then fired until it melts or at least softens, and flows or is pushed into the engraved lines in the metal. It hardens and blackens when cool, and the niello on the flat surface is polished off to show the filled lines in black, contrasting with the polished metal around it. […]
Antique Russian silver Niello snuff box. This is a PRETTY and UNIQUE niello silver snuff box (tobacco box). ALL hand engraved and Niello technique, it is a technique of adding sulfur and other alloy to the engraved silver (like enamel). Marked on cover and base. I believe it is Moscow stamped, with 84 (silver purity). Maker’s mark ITS (Cyrillic)(see photo). Please see photos carefully to admire the beauty of the work. The last 2 photos show the 2 stamp mark (on cover and base). The photo number 10, shows a dent on one corner. H : 1 1/4 inches (3 cm). W : 3 1/4 inches (8 cm). D : 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm). Weight : 3.3 oz (96 grams). Dimensions and weight are approximately. Minor scratches consistent with age and use. A dent at one corner. Hinges are in working condition.
