Victorian Solid Silver Niello Watch Chain

It is an enamel-like substance made of alloys of sulphur, copper, silver and lead and used as an inlay on engraved metal. This attractive chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era is a wonderful example of the Niello craft! Not marked but tested by a professional jeweler and meets a high silver sample. Dimensions: 41cm -16,14 INCHES LONG. 1inch = 2.54cm. Total weight aprox 16.20gms. It comes from a private collection. It comes from a private collection, antique show in WIEN VIENNA AUSTRIA. Please be sure to view all photos carefully as they are included as part of the item description! I sell antique and vintage collectible stuff – unique items that have history, and may show signs of this – it’s part of their charm. I try to describe any obvious faults as truthfully as I can. However, as most of my items are 100 years old, they will often bear the traces of a previous life.
