AROUND 100 YEARS OLD SILVER BRACELET FROM IRAQ 9 IMAGES IN NIELLO OF THE ARAB MARSH IN SMALL RECTANGULAR CLEAN PLAQUETTES THAT HAVE A FEEL OF THE ART DECO OF THE PERIOD. THERE IS AN INGENIOUS SLIDING CATCH THAT IS VERY EFFECTIVE AND DISCREET. THE PICTURES ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. LENGTH : 7.25″ WIDTH : 0.75″. THE SILVER IS A HEAVY GAUGE AND THE WEIGHT IS A SUBSTANTIAL 40.7g.
This 1920s art deco, sterling silver, dance compact is just beautiful. The compact has a chased flower basket on the front side crowned with swags of garlands, and there is a border of chased leaves as a decorative border on the outer front edge. The basket, garlands and leaves are chased onto a black niello ground. The rich and thick sterling tassel is secured to the bottom of the compact with a niello-patterned, cone shaped cap. The sterling silver chain is in place and is original to the piece. The back of the compact shows three stylized initials all intertwined. I think they read: “BJR”. The compact is a solid, heavy weight for it’s size. This compact is double sided for rouge and powder. There is a clean mirror within each lid on each side.
