Unmarked but tested for sterling silver (the ring is not silver). Very rare niello with gilt. I guess it was made in England. Wonderful workmanship in wonderful condition. Niello-this is the art of ornamenting metal surfaces that is thought to have originated with the Egyptians and spread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. It is an enamel-like substance made alloys of sulfur, copper, silver and lead and used as an inlay on engraved metal, especially niello with gilding!
